We welcome the Leeds is Breastfeeding Friendly campaign, designed to support mums in Leeds to feel confident and comfortable to breastfeed in and around public places. Leeds Breastfeeding Friendly has been developed in partnership with local mums, based on their experience, passion and ideas.
Breastfeeding gives babies the best possible start in life. It is the natural way to feed a baby and has major health benefits for both mums and babies. However, breastfeeding mums sometimes feel like they are not supported to breastfeed in public, some don’t start or give up earlier than they would have liked because of this. By working in partnership with local businesses and organisations who sign up to the campaign, we can send out a strong, public message of support for breastfeeding mums and their babies.
Our commitment to support more mums to breastfeed, forms part of our commitment to ensure that everyone in the city will have ‘the best start’ in life – one of the priorities in the Leeds Health and Wellbeing Strategy, and to ensuring that Leeds is a Child Friendly City.
