School place planning in Leeds (learning places)

Welcome

School place planning is undertaken by the Sufficiency and Participation Team. We are responsible for delivering the Council’s statutory duties in relation to the sufficiency of provision including mainstream school places, Early Years and Special Educational Needs provision from ages 0-19.

As part of the work involved in planning provision, we look at demographic trends using NHS data as well as other data sources such as school preference patterns and housing data. We ensure a thorough consultation and statutory process is followed when proposing any changes to local authority schools, and work closely with schools, Multi-Academy Trusts, Foundation Trusts, free schools and other partners across the city to secure sufficient primary and secondary school places across Leeds.

Through our work to help facilitate increased choice and access to good schools locally, we aim to play a part in shared aims of improving attendance, behaviour and overall levels of achievement.

Information about current consultations can be found on the recent proposals and school place consultations page.
