What is 2 year old Free Early Education Entitlement (FEEE)
Following on from the success of FEEE for 3 and 4 year olds, the Government is offering the same entitlement for 2 year olds who meet the eligibility criteria. If you think a family you're working with meet this criteria, please contact the Family Information Service on 0113 378 9700, who will be able to confirm whether the chid is eligibile for the 2 year old funding.
The provision of FEEE enables all eligible 2 year old children to receive 570 hours each year of funded childcare. This can be taken for a minimum of 38 weeks, which is equivalent to 15 hours each week, or can be stretched across 51 weeks. It is between the childcare provider and the parent to determine the patterns of funding which can be delivered, this should be done prior to signing a parental declaration form. Childcare providers will claim the amount of hours agreed from the Local Authority (LA) directly.
Children are entitled to a maximum of 10 hours per day, which may be available between the hours of 7am and 7pm, 7 days a week.
Children can access this funding from the beginning of the term after their 2nd birthday, up until the term after their 3rd birthday, when they will be able to access the FEEE for 3 and 4 year olds.
The relevant dates are as follows:
- Children born in the period 1st January to 31st March: the start of term beginning on or following 1st April after the child’s second birthday;
- Children born in the period 1st April to 31st August: the start of term beginning on or following 1st September after the child’s second birthday;
- Children born in the period 1st September to 31st December: the start of term beginning on or following 1st January after the child’s second birthday.
