If a young child has additional needs that can’t be met by their childcare and early education setting, you may find a
Common Assessment Framework assessment useful. This is where practitioners from services like education, health and or social care, can come together with you to talk about your needs and how to meet them.
If your young child has very complex needs and cannot make progress through the support the already get at their early years setting, they may need a more in-depth assessment called an Education, Health and Care needs assessment and a more detailed plan of support called an Education, Health and Care Plan (these Plans replaced Statements in September 2014).
You can ask your early years setting for more advice about this, or you can find out more from our
EHCP page.
