Early Support is a national programme to improve the way that services for children and young people with SEN and disabilities in England work with families.
It provides a
framework and a set of principles about how services should work with families. The principles are all about services working in close partnership with families, valuing their views and recognising every child and family’s unique situation.
All partners working with children and young people with SEN and disabilities in Leeds, including education, health and social care partners, have signed up to these principles and agreed to use them to guide how they deliver services.
These are principles that we think can be usefully applied to all children and young people and their families who need extra support of some kind, not just those with SEN and disabilities. We aim to help families with issues of any kind, early on before things get worse. You can find more details on the CAF webpage about how we support all families who need ‘early help’, including a helpful tool we use called the Common Assessment Framework (CAF).
You can also find lots of useful resources for families and practitioners supporting children and young people with SEN and disabilities, including fact sheets about different types of condition, on the Early Support website.
